Consumer Health Data Policy
Effective: September 1, 2026 · Washington RCW 19.373 (MHMDA)
1. What This Covers
This policy covers the Shadow Sheep Labs apps that handle data Washington law treats as "consumer health data": Focus, and one optional feature in Mail.
In Focus, that data is:
- Your adaptation profile. You can pick one or more of ADHD, autism, OCD, and AuDHD. You can also set a medication window if you want the app to adjust around it. Both are optional.
- The accommodations you turn on. Focus offers a list of 14. You choose the ones that help you.
- Your wake pattern. Focus reads sleep data from Apple HealthKit and keeps a rolling record of your last 90 or so confirmed wake times.
- Sleep and Morning schedules and sessions whose times Focus worked out from HealthKit sleep data.
Focus never asks you to enter a diagnosis. Nothing in this list is required to use the app.
Mail's health-context option
Mail, our email app, has one optional feature this policy covers. With your consent, Mail flags messages that mention health topics and keeps them on your device instead of mirroring them to iCloud. The flag is worked out on your device, the message text never leaves it, and nothing about it is shared with anyone.
The feature stays off until you agree to it, in Mail's setup flow or later in Mail's Settings under Privacy, and the same toggle turns it off again. Consent is recorded on each device separately and is never copied between devices.
2. What Stays on Your Device
Everything in the Focus list in section 1 is stored in the app's App Group container on your device. None of it is sent to iCloud, to Shadow Sheep Labs, or to anyone else. Mail's health-context flags live in Mail's own on-device database, with the same rule: they are not mirrored to iCloud and not sent to anyone.
The App Group container is shared between Shadow Sheep Labs apps installed on the same device. That lets Focus and our other apps use the same wake pattern without each one reading HealthKit separately. The container does not leave the device.
What this means for you
This data does not follow you to your other devices. If you use Focus on an iPhone and an iPad, you set your profile and accommodations on each one. We chose that tradeoff on purpose. Keeping the data off the network is worth more than the convenience of having it sync.
HealthKit data itself
Focus reads sleep data from HealthKit on your device and uses it to work out wake times. The HealthKit data itself is never copied to iCloud or to us.
3. What Syncs Between Your Devices
Some settings do sync across your devices through end-to-end encrypted iCloud storage. We cannot read them. They are encrypted on your device before they are sent, with a key we do not have.
Interface preferences
These describe how the app behaves, not a condition you have. They sync: low-stimulation mode, the app's font family, animation speed, haptics on or off, and sound and alert preferences.
We treat these the same way iOS treats its own Accessibility settings. A font choice is a preference. It does not say anything about your health. Where a sound or alert preference relates to sensitivity, it still syncs, because what it controls is the app's behavior.
Sleep schedules you type in yourself
If you set a bedtime or wake time by hand, that time syncs. A bedtime you chose is a preference, the same as an alarm. Only times Focus worked out from your HealthKit sleep data stay on the device.
Other Focus settings
Focus also syncs ordinary app settings such as notification preferences and the time buffers you set for travel and tasks.
4. Cleanup of Older Data
Earlier versions of Focus did sync some of the data described in section 1 to your iCloud storage. Moving that data to the device does not by itself remove what was already sent.
So the app runs a one-time cleanup. The next time you open Focus after updating, it deletes those older copies from your iCloud storage. This runs once per device. You do not have to do anything.
5. What We Never Do
- We do not sell consumer health data, or any other data.
- We do not share it for cross-context advertising.
- Focus contains no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not share consumer health data with third parties.
6. How Long We Keep It
We do not hold this data, so there is nothing for us to keep. On your device:
- Adaptation profile and accommodation selections: kept until you change them, delete them in Settings, or delete the app.
- Wake-pattern history: a rolling window of about 90 entries, roughly three months. Older entries are dropped as new ones are recorded.
- Schedules and sessions: kept until you delete them or delete the app.
Deleting the app removes its App Group container and everything in it.
7. Your Rights
- Deletion: Settings → Data Management. You can delete data by category or delete all of it. It is reachable in three taps or fewer.
- Access & export: Settings → Data Management → Export My Data. This builds a copy of your data on your device — including your adaptation profile and wake-pattern history — that you can save or share. Because this data is on your device and not on our servers, we cannot pull it for you. If the in-app export does not work for you, email privacy@shadowsheeplabs.com and we will walk you through it.
- Correction: Change your profile or your accommodations at any time in Settings. Nothing here is set once.
- Withdrawal: Turn off HealthKit access for Focus in the iOS Health app. Focus stops reading sleep data. Delete the stored data in Settings → Data Management.
- Appeals: If we decline a request, you can appeal — reply to our response, or email privacy@shadowsheeplabs.com with "Appeal" in the subject line. We answer appeals in writing within 45 days. If the appeal does not resolve it, you can file a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General's Office.
We do not charge for any of this and we will not treat you differently for asking.
8. Contact

9. Changes to This Policy
If we change what we collect or how we handle it, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change means health-derived data would start leaving your device, we will say so plainly in the app before it takes effect.
